400 Plus Logo
I was contracted by the African American Museum in Philadelphia to design a logo to reflect on Black experiences that have occurred since Africans first arrived in the English colonies in 1619. When first approached about the project, they really wanted to emphasize the amount of time Africans have been in the colonies and how we continue to progress through all of the prejudice and injustices in this country.
I knew immediately that I wanted to have a graphic font with a plus to symbolize that progression and that it should be colorful. I found the example on the right through a google search it sparked inspiration for the design direction I wanted to go in.
Early Iterations
At first, I wanted to have different shades of brown to represent the spectrum of melanin of black/brown people in the Diaspora. By the last iteration, I started gravitating towards using multiple colors instead. The client also asked if their logo can be incorporated as well as the color purple to link it back to their organization.
